Rumors of a potential Moto X, Motorola’s new flagship smartphone that’s been hitting the rumor mill for somet time now, reignited when the Google-owned smartphone-maker had sent out media invitations for an event this week scheduled for July 10 and July 11. However, as it turns out, the event may not be for the introduction of the Moto X Android smartphoneafter all according to information that CNET had acquired.
The publication says that Motorola and Googlewill have other news to share, but didn’t speculate on what that news would be. “However, we’re told by a source that Motorola has something else to share with journalists,” Eric Mack of CNET wrote in a blog post. “No more details are yet forthcoming.”
In recent days, there have been more leaks of a Motorola Droid Ultra and Motorola Droid Maxx handsets, where both devices appear to be extensions of Motorola’s current Droid RAZR HD and Droid RAZR Maxx HD lines. Potentially, these devices could be officially shown off this week to members of the media.
Initially, Internet personality Leo Laporte said on his podcast that he had received a personal invitation from Motorola’s Guy Kawasaki for an event for this week.
Scopri come farti Rimborsare parte della spesa del prossimo Viaggio !He said we’d really like you to come down to the Google campus for an event — small group of journalists, 50 people, two groups; July 10th and July 11th… I’m thinking it’s the phone.
Tech observers who have been watching Motorola also noticed that the pre-order announcement for the Moto X shows a summer scene of two people where their bodies form an “X” and an “I” suggesting that this would be for the roman numeral 11 for the July 11 announcement.
The July event would also take place in the midst of several other tech events happening for the week. Also in the San Francisco Bay Area, VentureBeat is scheduled to hold its MobileBeat conference while in New York City on July 11, Nokia will be holding its event that’s widely believed to introduce a 41-megapixel PureView version of the Windows Phone 8 Lumia smartphone.
Historically, Motorola had introduced a number of new smartphones during the summer launch. The company had introduced the T-Mobile Motorola CLIQ smartphone, Motorola’s first Android smartphone with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, at Giga OM’s Mobilize a few years ago in the summer time frame and it has launched a number of Droid releases with U.S. partner Verizon Wireless, including the Droid X, in the summer.
If the Moto X doesn’t launch this summer, another potential date that it could debut would be this fall alongside the introduction of the next iteration of Google’s mobile OS, colloquially known as Key Lime Pie and rumored to be either called Android 5.0.
