Three Amazing Solutions to Repurpose an Old iPhone

When you were among the bajillions of people who purchased an iphone 6 or perhaps 6 Or more, you may end up watching your old iphone and pondering what the blazes in regards to it.

bemo smart thermostat
Bemo smart thermostat
Certainly, you could offer it, however then you need to persist through the bothers of wiping your information, discovering the container and frill, making a posting in Craigslist or ebay, and, on the off chance that you wish top dollar, getting the telephone opened from your bearer. And, after its all said and done, the mammoth excess of used iphones emulating a month ago's rollout means even "top dollar" may not precisely add up to much.

Meh. To truly capitalize on your old iphone, provide for it a shiny new rent on life. Beneath I've gathered together three cool and unprecedented thoughts for repurposing that minor ios gadget. Furthermore these aren't the old saws of making it a "committed tablet" (on the screen that little?! ) or "full-time music player for the auto. " Bo-ring!

1. Transform it into a home-security framework

Camcorder? Check. Wi-Fi? Check. Your old iphone as of now gives the fundamental building pieces of a shrewd home-security framework. Everything you need now's Vicinity, a free ios application giving you live feature streaming, movement forecast (with distributed storage), feature cautions furthermore controls for different brilliant home hardware like keen attachments.

presence for ios
presence for ios

Simply put your telephone with a tripod or some other style of mount, point it toward the range you wish to screen (back patio, child's space, side door), and fire in the application. At that point get joined through a comparative application on your new iphone

Despite the fact that there are some alternatively accessible premium peculiarities, you truly needn't bother with the hoodlums to give your iphone the whole security-cam treatment. This right here, this is cool.

2. Transform it into a Home like savvy indoor regulator

Savvy indoor regulators are amazing — simply ask any individual who claims a Home or something proportional. Presently envision one with the mental aptitude of iphone (even a 2012 model): That could sum to a virtuoso level indoor regulator, wouldn't you say that?

That is the real trick behind Kickstarter assignment Insightful Labs Bemo, which transforms your iphone into the brains of a keen house HVAC controller. It not just allows progressed warming/cooling booking and area based mechanization, additionally powers iphone-particular routines like streaming music or calling 911 on the off chance that there is crisis.

Presently for the head-scratching data: The Kickstarter battle for Bemo essentially finished, and notwithstanding a Kickstarter Staff Pick suggestion and scope by outlets like CNET, it didn't seem anyplace close reaching its unassuming $50, 000 objective. Given the prevalence of items much the same as the Home and the moderately reasonableness with the Bemo, I don't see precisely why it didn't improve.

All things considered, I think the organization will either re-dispatch the fight or perhaps push ahead without it. You've got to hold up upward of a year to have a Bemo, yet my inclination is it'll be more than worth the trouble.

3. Transform it into a second cam for your next online feature shoot

Cutting edge iphones can get full 1080p feature, which is really astonishing when you stop to think of it as. Obviously, it doesn't make a difference whether you're recording a marriage, soccer match, birthday party or perhaps your earth shattering film-celebration entrance: two cams are constantly superior to one. At the point when the time includes alter your footage, you'll have the capacity to reduce and forward between two separate plot — and that is the distinction between a decent film and an incredible a solitary.

collabracam
collabracam
So I'm just proposing utilizing your second iphone as a next cam, isn't that so? Right! But utilize Collabracam running the show, either on the ipad, new iphone, or even an ipod itouch. This $4. 99 application gives you a chance to control up to six ios items at the same time, successfully administering your shoot continuously and on the fly.

This can be the sort of hardware that can make shoestring feature preparations look most likely proficient (and costly). The application may even remotely control a Galileo robot dock, just on the off chance that you don't have a second cameraman accessible to work your old iphone.

GestureWorks Gameplay adds customizable touch controls to any PC game

The GestureWorks Gameplay program allows any video game running on a Windows 8 device to be played with an on-screen touch controller

The computer interaction experts at Ideum have developed a number of impressive multi-touch smart tables in the past, such as the Platform 46 and the Pano Touch Table, many of which were built around their proprietary GestureWorks software. Now the company is gearing up to release its GestureWorks Gameplay program, which is built around the same engine and allows any video game running on a Windows 8 device o be played with an on-screen touch controller.
With GestureWorks Gameplay installed, players will be able to create their own virtual controllers for any game, which will show up as an overlay on the action. Using a simple tool, gamers can add an assortment of buttons, joysticks, D-pads, switches, and scroll wheels right onto the screen and build a full set of controls from scratch. From there, each item can be moved anywhere on the display and altered in terms of size, color, opacity and labeling to form a unique controller that's tailor-made for a specific title.

Once these controllers have been put together, users will be able to share them with other players through an online community and download any existing ones for a wide range of games. The touch control software even allows for two players to share the same screen and use their individual controllers on co-op games.

Besides adding digital buttons onto the screen, players can also program over 200 different gesture commands, swiping in front of a character to make them attack or tapping above them to trigger a jump, for instance.

Many PC gamers might balk at the idea of replacing a mouse and keyboard with an on-screen controller, but the addition of touch controls could make gaming on the go much easier, especially for people with a large backlog of titles to play. Some games that are less action-focused, like Trine, may actually benefit from them.

Currently, Ideum is allowing people to sign up for a beta of GestureWorks Gameplay through an official website. The beta will be released in October, with the full version of the software slated for November of this year.

In the meantime, you can watch the video below to see how GestureWorks Gameplay's touch controls perform on a number of modern games.

Sony Shows Off 15 Exclusive PlayStation 4 Games

Earlier this week, Sony finally unveiled thePlayStation 4 and announced the price, along with a collection of exclusive titles coming to the console.
Sony’s press conference didn’t feature as many big surprise exclusive or AAA games as Microsoft’s presentation, but it still had many exclusives to entice gamers. A few of those exclusives Sony already announced at the PS4 unveiled back in February, but some were brand new games.
To go along with the company’s big indie game strategy, Sony brought out eight indie developers to show games that will come exclusively to the PlayStation 4 alongside all of the big-budget games.
PlayStation 4

The Order 1886

The first big surprise reveal for the PlayStation 4. The Order 1886 is the new game from Sony Santa Monica Studios and Ready At Dawn. The game takes places in Victorian London in 1886. The trailer makes the game look like a co-op steampunk adventure with the players fighting against some sort of supernatural creatures.
There’s no gameplay footage of The Order 1886, nor a release date, but the history of the two studios and the short trailer make the game look very promising.

Killzone: Shadow Fall

The latest entry in the Killzone franchise, Shadow Fall is the obligatory shooter that will launch along with the new console.  The game takes places 30 years after Killzone 3, and lets the player shoot at Helghast who want to justify their existence. The game will also feature multiplayer of some sort, as first person shooters always do.
Killzone: Shadow Fall looks like a fun game with great graphics. It may not appeal to some, but so far it’s the only sci-fi shooter slated for the PlayStation 4 launch, with Destiny coming to the console (and the Xbox One) in 2014.

Drive Club

Drive Club was one of the first games Sony announced for the PlayStation 4 earlier this year. The game showcases the power of the PlayStation 4 with impressive looking cars and tracks. The game is presumably less of a simulation racer than Sony’s Gran Turismo games, with a focus on high-end cars.
Sony will give a version of Drive Club out to all PlayStation Plus subscribers at the launch of the PlayStation 4, giving everyone a chance to try the new game without paying full price.

Infamous: Second Son

The third game in the Infamous saga leaves Cole McGrath from the first two games in favor of a new conduit who goes by the name Delsin Rowe. Delsin is a graffiti artist that possesses smoke-based super powers. The game make Delsin fight against a police state in Seattle that’s cracking down on people like him.
While the E3 trailer for the game showed off a few new powers that Delsin can use, it mostly focuses on the story, Delsin’s older brother is a cop who constantly has to bail out his little brother. The relationship between the two will play into the main story of the game.

Knack

Knack is the new character-driven 3D platformer from legendary developer Mark Cerny. The game features a robot named Knack that’s made of floating parts. The character’s design means he can morph into several other, larger creatures throughout the course of the game, likely leading to a few unique gameplay moments.

The Dark Sorcerer (tech demo)

While technically not a game, The Dark Sorcerer is Quantic Dream’s attempt at showing off the power of the PlayStation 4. The 12-minute video shows a scene of an old man and a goblin trying to film a scene about summoning a demon for a video game. The video looks amazing, and is a great example of the power of the new console.
David Cage and Quantic Dream’s latest game, Beyond: Two Souls starring Ellen Page is due out for PlayStation 3 this August. This trailer isn’t an indication of what the team will produce next, but it shows what their next game may look like.

Transistor

Transistor is the newest game from Super Giant Games, developers of the amazing Bastion. Transistor features an art style that’s similar to Bastion, but with more of a science-fiction/cyberpunk theme. The trailer shows familiar combat with a few new features with a brilliant song laid over everything.
Transistor will make its console debut on the PlayStation 4 next year, though will likely come to other devices sometime later.

Don’t Starve

The newest game from Klei, the makers of Mark of The Ninja, Don’t Starve is already an indie darling on the PC. The game takes place in an open world where players simply try to survive as long as they possibly can. It’s similar to the survival mode in Minecraft, but with a 2D art style and less building crazy structures.

Mercenary Kings

Another indie game making the jump from PC to PlayStation 4, Mercenaries Kings is the latest game from the developers of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. The game is a 2D side-scrolling shooter with a crafting system that lets players create their own guns to shoot at their enemies. On the console up to four players can play at once via split-screen, making the game great for friends who like to all play on the same couch.

Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty

Oddworld New n Tasty
The newest game from Oddworld Inhabitants is a remake of the original Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, one of the first popular PlayStation games. The game will faithfully recreate everything from the original game with new graphics made in the Unity3D engine and continuously scrolling levels instead of the flip-screen style of the original game

Secret Ponchos

Secret Ponchos
Secret Ponchos is a Spaghetti Westen-themed game that blends the mechanics of top-down shooters and fighting games. The blended mechanics make it possible to give gamers multiplayer modes ranging from 1-on-1 duels to eight-player shootouts and everything in between.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about an octopus who cleverly disguised himself as a man in a three-piece suit. Players must help the octopus navigate his way through life as a cephalopod in a human world. Players can control all of the octopus’ arms independently as they try to do simple things like mow the lawn, buy groceries and simple stand up straight with hilarious results.

Outlast

Another indie title, Outlast is quite possibly the scariest game created to date. The game pits the player in the role of a journalist with no weapons in an abandoned asylum. The player can use some parkour moves to escape the things that lurk in the shadows, but the only real option is to run and hide.

Ray’s The Dead

Ray’s The Dead is a zombie game where players control a new zombie named Ray as he builds a zombie army presumably with the intent of eating brains. The game has elements of Pikmin, with the player controlling hordes of zombies, each with their own special abilities.

Galak-Z

galak_z_3
The latest game from Skulls of The Shogun developer 17-bit, Galak-Z is a new space shooter that looks like a ton of fun. The game features an open world that players can explore as they fight enemy spaceships from across the universe. Not much else is known about the game, but the developer’s history set a high bar for Galak-Z.

3D Headset and Treadmill Combo Make Video Games Feel Real

Forget haptic feedback. When combined, two pieces of virtual-reality tech offer an immersive gaming experience that puts you in the middle of the action.
Texas-based startup Virtuix posted a YouTube video Thursday that demonstrates Omni

, its treadmill-like "natural motion interface for virtual reality applications" that enables a user's in-game avatar to mimic his or her real-life movements. The video shows it being used along with the Oculus Rift virtual-reality headset.
The result? Rather than sitting on the couch and clicking buttons on a controller, users must physically run and blast enemies with a gaming gun while playing, for example, a first-person shooter. They can walk, run, jump, step sideways and crouch (by bending over) in any direction on Omni's circular treadmill. Check out the video, above, to see the immersive action.
Would you use the Omni and the Ocular Rift headset to play video games? Tell us in the comments, below.

Angry Birds Space announced for March 22nd release, NASA and National Geographic lending a hand

Angry Birds has spawned countless ports and two sorta-sequels, but Rovio has now announced what it's describing as its biggest launch since the original game. Angry Birds Space will be released on March 22nd, and the company has enlisted NASA and National Geographic as launch partners for the game (exactly what that entails is still unclear, though). As you can probably guess, the hook this time around will be some new physics to deal with, including zero gravity and a new "lightspeed destruction" feature, but details on the game itself otherwise remain a bit light, including any specific word on supported platforms. Rovio is apparently planning a big push at launch though, with a simultaneous rollout planned across "mobile gaming, animation, retail, and publishing." It's also promising to reveal more details ahead of that in early March.

Inside the First Missions of Prototype 2

Prototype 2 Screenshot

The new protagonist, Sgt. James Heller.

The opening scenes of Prototype 2 have got a lot of blood in them. The sequel to Radical Entertainment’s open-world, anti-superhero video game, Prototype, promise to improve on the first game with more skills, features and a much-deserved Mature rating.

Mashable got a chance to try out the first couple missions of the game and experiment with a fully-powered main character as part of a special demo from Activision, the game’s producer.

The Story

[No major spoilers were shown save for some background info on the main character]

Prototype 2 takes place 14 months after the first game and the threat of a bio-weapon virus has racked New York (now called “New York Zero”). The hero from the first game, Alex Mercer, is the new bad guy. Infected with a virus, he was given strange superpowers like the ability to glide through the air, shoot organic tendrils from his body or even consume other humans to assume their appearance.

Mercer is blamed for a new outbreak of the same virus and New York has been broken up into three zones: Green (government lockdown), Yellow (medical quarantine) and Red (total f-cking chaos).

The player is thrown into the Red zone as Sgt. James Heller and the virus has run rampant with bodies and bio-mutations growing over the buildings. Heller and his military squad are attacked by Mercer who infects Heller and leaves him for dead. Heller is recovered by the government and turned into a bio-weapon against his will after showing an unnatural ability to fight the virus.

Mercer helps break Heller out of the medical facility and tries to convince him that the whole virus is a government plot. Fair enough, but Heller also blames Mercer for the death of his wife and kid who were both killed by an attack from infected civilians.

The game is all about Heller’s quest for revenge as he tries to figure out exactly who — Mercer, the government, or something else — is to blame.

New Features

prototype 2 image

The player assumes control of Heller as he’s wandering through the Yellow zone coming to grips with his new bio-powers and avoiding government and military patrols looking to take him in. All of the game’s powers return, such as the ability to consume enemies for health, new costumes and even plot points (absorbing certain enemies grants you their memories). Players can also turn their hands into giant blades or hardened fists, shoot tendrils from their bodies like webbing, or even cause bio-spikes to shoot up from the ground.

Players can now assign two of these powers to hot buttons allowing them to chain together bio powers with standard kicks, punches and picked up items such as guns. This adds another layer to combat and lets players fight in their own way (range vs. brute force, etc.). Emphasis has been put on special moves and finishers as opposed to exhaustive move lists and complex button inputs. The skills and powers can be leveled up throughout the game.

The team also wanted Heller to feel more like a hunter, preying on targets. To wit, the character as a sonar-like ability that allows him to track down key enemies and goals by sending out a biological pulse, of sorts.

Gameplay

We had a chance to test out some of Prototype 2‘s new powers and moves as a fully-evolved Heller fighting all manner of militia. The game’s combat feels similar to that of Batman: Arkham City: Moves have an appropriate heft and weight from punching out guards to ripping cannons off of tanks. The game can feel like button mashing thanks to the streamlined controls but variety comes in mixing and matching special abilities and powers to adjust to situations. The combat is surprisingly deep and rewarding regardless of your ability.

Non-combat sections focus more on surveying your surroundings and blending in then the high-wire parkour of the first game. It’s clear the team took some notes from the Assassin’s Creed series but the game still feels all its own.

Verdict (So Far)

It’s too early to tell if the game can keep up the tension and narrative pace through the whole experience. The opening missions give a promising look at the new face of Prototype and the combat feels good. The game didn’t blow us away but its clear Radical Entertainment is swinging for the fences.

Is Prototype 2 going to hit it out of the park or does it sound like just more of the same? Let us know in the comments below.
