Nokia: T-Mobile’s Lumia 710 Has Exceeded Expectations

At the beginning of February, we posed a question: Is the Nokia Lumia 710 selling poorly on T-Mobile? Our answer was, probably not. Nokia has seemingly answered that question itself today in remarks from company CEO Stephen Elop at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. When asked how the Lumia 710 was doing in the United States, Elop was quick to say that it has been “exceeding expectations.”

T-Mobile’s Lumia 710 was the first Nokia-made Windows Phone to hit the United States. It arrived with an aggressive price tag – $50 on-contract, that got even more aggressive when the carrier dropped the price of the device down to free.

When the carrier did that, many believed it was because it was selling poorly.

Nokia Says Its Lumia 710 Windows Phone Has Exceeded Expectations

Not the case says Elop who said that the company is “very pleased” with how the device has selling in the U.S. A quick peek at T-Mobile’s website reveals that the device is currently the third best-selling device on T-Mobile and boasts high customer satisfaction.

Keep in mind, the Lumia 710 isn’t a beast of a smartphone. It’s an entry level device. A very solid entry level device at that.

This seems to bode well for the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 which is slated to arrive next month on AT&T’s 4G LTE network. We enjoyed the device so much, that we awarded it with our Best in Show award for CES 2012.

Nokia has also released the Lumia 800 here in the United States but as of right now, the price tag is $899. That’s the only way it’s being sold at the moment, which, is a bit puzzling considering Nokia’s plan to aggressively price its devices here in the U.S.

That plan seems to have worked for the Lumia 710 and if rumors are to be believed, the Lumia 900 may launch with a $99 on-contract price, a price that will certainly demand the attention of customers across the U.S.

White Galaxy Nexus Release Date Official

Back in the early part of January, we showed you a white Samsung Galaxy Nexus that was apparently, at least according to retailers, going to be headed across the pond to the United Kingdom. Today, that device is official and it’s going to be hitting shelves next week on February 13th. And it probably won’t be just Clove UK and MobileFun who carry it either.

Samsung says that it’s going to be coming to a wide-range of stores across the United Kingdom when it arrives on Monday so if you’re interested, you should have plenty of options in both the physical and virtual sense.

As for those of you living in the United States, there are currently no plans, at least official ones, to launch the white version of the phone. That of course could change in a heartbeat but as of right now, you’re going to have to import one and use it on AT&T or T-Mobile.

The white Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the same exact phone as the Galaxy Nexus that launched in December of last year. Only this one has a nearly all-white design save for the bezel up front which remains black as night.

Everything else is the same.

4.65'' HD Super AMOLED display which boasts 720p resolution. That’s 1280×720 for those keeping score. It will have the same mediocre 5MP camera up in the front. It’ll have a 1.2GHz dual core processor and HSPA+ 4G connectivity.

And of course, it’ll have Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system right out of the box. If you’re not familiar with Android 4.0 and all it has to offer, you’ll want to check out this guide.

We reviewed the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, which is a different model than the one we’re talking about here, but feel free to read the review as it might give you some insight into what to expect from one of the best Android phones in existence.

Huawei Goes High-End With Diamond Smartphones

Huawei’s new high-end smartphones, which will be introduced at Mobile World Congress next month in Barcelona, will be part of the company’s new ‘Diamond’ series. The Diamond series, according to Huawei’s chairman Richard Yu, will best the company’s latest Ascend P1 S

smartphone flagship, which was introduced just this month at CES 2012.

The Ascend P1 S was a noteworthy introduction at CES 2012 thanks to its super slim form factor, besting even the slim Droid RAZR, and small footprint despite powerful internal specs.

Yu didn’t go into specifics about how the Diamond series will best the Ascend P1 S nor did he go into details about the specs for the new phones.

Whatever the case may be, it’s an exciting time for Huawei as the company attempts to replicate HTC’s success in the smartphone space and try to build a brand for itself. Like HTC in its early Pocket PC/Windows Mobile days of yore, Huawei started out as a manufacturer that rebrands its phones at the request of carriers and other retailers. Now that Huawei is trying to shape its own destiny with its own brand, it is stepping up its game from entry-level handsets into the high-end market. And with the solid build quality of the T-Mobile Springboard Android tablet, it seems that Huawei has a lot going for it.

We’ll just have to wait for a few more short weeks to find out what exactly Huawei will be showing off on the international stage.
