PlayStation 4 "PS4" 2013 is The Future of Gaming

PlayStation 4
Today is an exciting day for gamers everywhere. As you may have seen live with millions of others across the world, just moments ago we introduced PlayStation 4 (PS4), our next-generation console that will deliver breakthrough gaming experiences for our fans starting this holiday season.
PlayStation 4 is centered on all of you – the gamers. It redefines rich and immersive gameplay with powerful graphics and speed, intelligent personalization, deeply integrated social capabilities, and innovative second-screen features. When we designed PlayStation 4, we focused on building an architecture that will allow the greatest game developers in the industry to push boundaries and dig deep within their imaginations to create the most immersive and unique games for you to enjoy.
Killzone: Shadow Fall
The future of PlayStation is all about great games and entertainment, and at PlayStation Meeting 2013, we brought some of the brightest and most creative minds from the development community on stage to unveil the games that will define PS4. A partial initial lineup for PlayStation 4 includes first-party games from Guerilla Games (Killzone: Shadow Fall), Sucker Punch (inFamous Second Son), Evolution Studios (Driveclub), and Japan Studio (Knack), as well as titles from our partners such as Activision/Bungie (Destiny), Blizzard Entertainment (Diablo III), Capcom (Deep Down), and Ubisoft (Watch_Dogs). PlayStation also reinforced its commitment to self-publishing and the independent development community by having Jonathan Blow onstage who gave a sneak peek of his upcoming title The Witness. Finally, the incredible minds at Media Molecule and Quantic Dream gave glimpses of their conceptualization process and the future of gameplay with some remarkable footage. We only scratched the surface at the event, and will have many more exciting titles to come.
With so much amazing content in development for PlayStation 4, we want to give our fans every opportunity to check out virtually any PS4 game when it becomes available. In the future, when a gamer sees a title of interest in PlayStation Store, they can immediately start playing a portion of the actual game.
Knack
Our next generation console will change the way you interact with friends while you play. PlayStation 4 lets you instantly share images and videos of your favorite gameplay moments on Facebook with a single press on the DUALSHOCK 4 controller’s “share” button. You can also broadcast while you play in real-time through Ustream, allowing friends to comment or jump into your game in new ways. Be sure to check out the post from Shu Yoshida, WWS President, for his thoughts on DUALSHOCK 4 and the “share” features.
With PlayStation 4 we also want you to access your games quicker than ever before. PS4’s “suspend mode” eliminates the load time on your saved game and allows you to immediately return to where you left off by pressing the power button. PlayStation 4’s background downloading and updating capability also allows you to immediately play digital titles as they download, or update the system when the hardware is powered off.

Leveraging PlayStation Network with Gaikai technology, PS4 will make it easier for you to play your favorite games and access content wherever you are. We see PS Vita as the ultimate companion device for PS4 and it’s our long-term vision to make most PS4 games playable on PS Vita, so you can bring your favorite games from the big-screen TV to your PS Vita over Wi-Fi. We’re also introducing a “PlayStation App” for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices that acts as a second screen, allowing for unique gameplay possibilities such as viewing maps during an adventure game or remotely watching friends play during an epic battle right from a smartphone or tablet.
With so much to look forward to in 2013, I want to take a moment to thank you for following PlayStation through our incredible journey and allowing us to bring the most advanced hardware, software and networked gaming experiences into millions of homes around the world. We’re excited about this next chapter, and will continue to provide you with more details about PlayStation 4 and the broader PlayStation ecosystem, as we get closer to launch this holiday season.

PlayStation 4: Sony announces it, but doesn't show console

Sony has unveiled the next version of its next popular gaming console, the PlayStation 4, which it plans to release in time for the 2013 holiday season. PHOTO: Sony's Controller for the PlayStation 4.
Free live streaming by Ustream At a press conference on Wednesday evening in New York City, the company showcased the system's new graphics and controllers, but stopped short of revealing the system's casing. The system includes new social gaming features and mobile integration, all of which are a major update to Sony's PlayStation 3, which was introduced seven years ago.

"Today marks a moment of truth and a bold step forward for PlayStation as a company," Andrew House, president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, said at the event. "Today we will give you a glimpse into the future of play."
Second and Third Devices
The living room is no longer the "center of PlayStation ecosystem," according to Sony -- it's now a mobile world. Nintendo's Wii U and Microsoft's Xbox also embraced a similar theme last year. The Wii U even ships with a new tablet-like controller called the GamePad, which lets you stream the game and play it away from the TV and right on the controller.
With the PlayStation 4, Sony will be taking its existing portable gaming device -- the PS Vita -- and applying a similar concept. The Vita will work in conjunction with the new console and function as a controller. Sony, which makes its own line of Xperia Android phones and tablets, also announced plans to integrate tablets and phones into the social gaming experience.

Graphics
While Sony didn't show the actual gaming console or hardware off at the event, it did showcase the forthcoming system's graphics prowess. Powered by an eight-core x86 processor and 8GB of RAM, Sony showcased "Driveclub" to display the level of detail that the PlayStation 4 is capable of. With "microscopic metallic flakes of paint" and car seat interiors with fibers that reflected tiny points of light, the system promises next-generation and unmatched graphics. Another demo showed a million objects being dropped at once as well as a "Killzone: Shadow Fall" battle that spanned a huge, moving city.
At the event, game developers made claims that PlayStation 4 has had a "quantum leap in graphics and AI" leaving them now only limited by their imaginations.
Social Media
The Wii U took an early stab at building a social network within a home console with its Mii-verse of game chatter and doodles, but PlayStation 4 will go a step further and feature "enhanced social capabilities" made possible through partnerships with Facebook and UStream. In a bid to become the "fastest most powerful gaming network in the world," Sony will be putting social media at the core of PS4 experiences, giving gamers the ability to share live streams of their gameplay online with the press of a button. In fact, the new DualShock controller will have a dedicated button just for sharing content to social media.
The DualShock 4 Controller
PlayStation's "iconic" controller won't be changing much in shape and size, but more bells and whistles have been added. The aforementioned share button, a colored light bar to give each player a little flare, and a sensor that will allow the PS4's Kinect-like camera depth-and-motion sensor to read where the player is, have all been added to the enhanced controller. Sony didn't detail how the camera will be used in games.
As mentioned, the company did leave out key details, including what the actual box that will be sitting beneath TV sets will look like, or pricing details.
"As far as the system itself we have to keep something new for later," Shuhei Yoshida, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios explained the move in an interview with Kotaku. "Otherwise you'd get bored."

PlayStation Vita to Launch in the U.S. Next February

We knew that Sony was gearing up to release its next-generation handheld console, the PlayStation Vita, which was unveiled at the E3 conference back in June. Now the gaming device has a launch date: Feb. 22, 2012.
Sony Computer Entertainment’s American CEO, Jack Tretton, made the announcement at the Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco Tuesday. “I can't wait for you to experience this revolutionary handheld system,” Tretton gushed in a blog post. The price tag? $249.
So how revolutionary is it? On the surface, it looks like an upgraded version of Sony’s last and largely disappointing handheld gaming system, the PSP. But Mashable got its hands on the Vita back in June and found it to be a lot more than it appears — the screen resolution and touchscreen controls were impressive, the analog joysticks handled well, the front- and back-facing cameras made for interesting augmented reality gameplay, and overall it seemed a more powerful system than the Nintendo DS.
But will the $249 price tag fly, in an era where millions of people are playing games on their smartphones? We’ll find out in February.
