Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Launch Date Pegged for August 29th

(Image credit: Getty Images via @daylife)Samsung has begun sending out invites to the press for an August 29th event at IFA in Berlin and it would appear that it could be for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

SamMobile is reporting that Samsung has started inviting members of the press to an Unpacked event set to take place in Germany on August 29th. Though Samsung has not said what it will be announcing at the event, the magic wand seems to indicate that it might be for either the Galaxy Note 2 or the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Both devices use a stylus pen and the wand appears to have the shape of one. Of course, that doesn’t confirm anything but these are the two big Samsung devices that are on our radar so it would not be shocking to see either one of them announced at IFA.

The Galaxy Note 2 could launch on August 29th.

Last year, Samsung showed off the original Samsung Galaxy Note at IFA so IFA 2012 seems like a likely launch pad for the Galaxy Note 2.

We had heard that Samsung might be having two launches for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. One in the United States, slated to take place on August 15th and one at IFA for the international version of the device.

This puts a bit of a damper on that original rumor as this is an Unpacked event and the other event isn’t, which could mean that the U.S. launch event pertains to the Galaxy Note 10.1.

Samsung launches products later in the United States and we have no reason, at least at the moment, to believe that it will do anything different with the Note 2 which means that August 29th could be the launch date for the Galaxy Note 2 and not August 15th.

It’s clear that Samsung is trying to throw everyone off-guard and thus far, it’s doing a great job.

Those interested in the Galaxy Note 2 will want to circle both dates in pencil to be sure but it’s looking like August 29th is going to be the date that it launches barring any surprises.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Rumors

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 figures to be the next phablet from Samsung and it’s rumored to be a nice upgrade over the original.

The Galaxy Note 2 is rumored to have a 5.5-inch HD display, quad-core Exynos processor, upgraded rear camera, 4G LTE capabilities and either Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

It’ll also take advantage of the S-Pen stylus though we don’t know if Samsung has made any changes to the pen for the next Galaxy Note.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is also rumored to have a design similar to the Galaxy S III, a smartphone that launched earlier this year.

White HTC Sensation with Android 4.0 Launching March 1st

The HTC Sensation has almost been around for a year now and apparently HTC likes it so much that it’s going to be releasing another edition with a couple of interesting changes. The first, it’s going to be arriving in Ice White, you can see how that color scheme works in the photo. And secondly, it’s going to be launching with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

Pretty nice, right?

The device is apparently going to be hitting Europe on March 1st and as we said, it will be coming with the same hardware that arrived on the HTC Sensation that launched in April of last year.

So that means you’ll get the 1.2 GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. You’ll have a 4.3-inch Super LCD display with qHD (540 x 960) resolution. You’ll have 768MB of RAM. 1GB of internal storage space. An 8MP rear camera. And a VGA front-facing camera to round it out.

The design, besides the coloring, will remain the same as well.

Now, it’s an unknown as to whether or not this beauty is going to be making it to the shores of the United States. If we had to guess, we’d probably say no. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep your fingers crossed. Or attempt to import one when it arrives.

It’s not that big of a deal though, folks.

Remember, the Mobile World Congress is just around the corner and HTC is expected to unveil a couple of smartphones in the HTC Edge and the HTC Ville. The Edge of course is rumored to be quad-core in nature while the Ville is rumored for T-Mobile’s network.

So, we think you’ll survive if the white Sensation doesn’t end up touching down.

For those of you in Europe though, circle March 1st on your calendar.

White Galaxy Nexus Release Date Official

Back in the early part of January, we showed you a white Samsung Galaxy Nexus that was apparently, at least according to retailers, going to be headed across the pond to the United Kingdom. Today, that device is official and it’s going to be hitting shelves next week on February 13th. And it probably won’t be just Clove UK and MobileFun who carry it either.

Samsung says that it’s going to be coming to a wide-range of stores across the United Kingdom when it arrives on Monday so if you’re interested, you should have plenty of options in both the physical and virtual sense.

As for those of you living in the United States, there are currently no plans, at least official ones, to launch the white version of the phone. That of course could change in a heartbeat but as of right now, you’re going to have to import one and use it on AT&T or T-Mobile.

The white Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the same exact phone as the Galaxy Nexus that launched in December of last year. Only this one has a nearly all-white design save for the bezel up front which remains black as night.

Everything else is the same.

4.65'' HD Super AMOLED display which boasts 720p resolution. That’s 1280×720 for those keeping score. It will have the same mediocre 5MP camera up in the front. It’ll have a 1.2GHz dual core processor and HSPA+ 4G connectivity.

And of course, it’ll have Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system right out of the box. If you’re not familiar with Android 4.0 and all it has to offer, you’ll want to check out this guide.

Every week the staff of GBM uses dozens of apps, some we can’t live without and some we can’t uninstall fast enough.

These are the apps we’ve been using or discovered recently that stood out in the crowd. They range from the practical to the time-wasting (in a good way).

Lumin — $1.99 [iOS]

Turn your iPhone into a magnifying glass.

Lumin

Lumin helps you view print in dark places or hard to see locations. When I want to upgrade the firmware on my HDTV, I can never remember the model number. iPhone does a great job of getting behind the thing on the wall. I can then use my iPhone camera and take a photo of the label. It’s also good for fine print in documents. With Lumin the image is magnified 2X and you don’t have to snap a photo unless you want to. It uses the LED flash for better viewing.

If you like to chat on your phone, Meebo is the app that you want.

Meebo brings a bunch of chat services into one platform. Once you fire it up, you can use AIM, Google Talk, Facebook, and more, to talk to your co-workers, friends and family members while on-the-go. I’ve been using it for quite some time now and I’ve found it to be the most reliable among its kind. Switching from 3G to Wi-Fi is seamless and the push notifications, when I have them turned on, work like a dream.

This puzzle game will keep you occupied for hours.

TileStorm HD is a fun puzzle based game that tasks you with sendng your wheeled robot companion from one end of a spaceport to another. At $4 on Android it is a bit pricey for some, but well worth it thanks to 100 puzzles.

I’m usually tire of puzzle games unless they are well thought out. So far, I am still having fun moving my tiles around to get my robot around outer space, an industrial complex, medieval times and the jungle.

TuneIn Radio — Free [Android]

This Internet radio app just got better with Car Mode and voice commands.

I’ve been looking for the perfect radio listening app for a long time since I’m an NPR junkie and recently came across TuneIn Radio. It’s not focused on public radio stations specifically, instead offering up a single app for streaming multiple radio stations of all types.

Find stations from across the country based on type or genre or just search the call letters you want. There’s both a sleep timer and an alarm function so you can wake up to any station.

A recent update brought with it Car Mode, which has bigger, chunkier buttons and a voice search component that makes it easier to control.
